Winston on Mariota: ‘We’re Like Two Horses at a Racetrack’
Move along, move along. Nothing to see here. Just a pair of rookie quarterbacks, drafted first and second overall, both Heisman Trophy winners and opponents in their NFL debuts. The Buccaneers and Titans finished with dismal 2-14 records last season. But the national hype surrounding the season-opening matchup between Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota on Sunday in Tampa is indisputable. It just isn’t being generated by what the coaches and quarterbacks have to say. And it hasn’t been particularly embraced by them, either. At least until Winston stepped to a podium Wednesday in front of Bucs media. “It’s like two horses at a racetrack,” he said. “When the alpha sees another alpha they just — (horse noise) — and they go on about their business.”
