Wilson, Thomas lead Players of Week

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas took Players of the Week honors announced Wednesday.

Wilson was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after taking apart Washington’s defense for 201 yards passing and another 122 yards rushing in Monday night’s 27-17 win over the Redskins. Wilson completed 18 of 24 passes for two touchdowns with another score on the ground.

Thomas was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after catching eight passes for a franchise-record 226 yards (28.3 average) with two touchdowns in Denver’s 41-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus took the AFC defensive honors. He had five tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in Buffalo’s 17-14 win over the Detroit Lions.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Tank Carder won the AFC special teams award. He blocked a punt out of bounds in the end zone for a safety and had a special teams tackle in Cleveland’s wild 29-28 comeback win over the Tennessee Titans.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Julius Peppers took the NFC defensive honors. He had a 49-yard interception touchdown return, a half-sack and three tackles in last Thursday night’s 42-10 trouncing of the Minnesota Vikings.

San Francisco 49ers kicker Phil Dawson won the NFC special teams award. He converted all five field-goal attempts and scored 16 points in a 22-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
