And then there were seven.

There’s probably never been a time in NFL history with better offensive skill players than there is nowadays.

With teams going to the spread attack, it’s essential to not only have multiple receivers, but it’s also beneficial to have running backs capable of catching the ball out of the backfield.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the elite offensive skilled teams in the league.

7. Dallas Cowboys – Tony Romo (QB), Darren McFadden/Joseph Randle (RB), Dez Bryant (WR) and Jason Witten (TE).

Why are they ranked here?

Despite losing DeMarco Murray, the Dallas Cowboys are still sure to have an explosive offense in 2015.

Why you ask?

Well, whenever you have a quarterback-wide receiver duo such as Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, you can bet your pretty penny you’ll be ranked in the top 10. Last year, the dynamic duo combined for 50 touchdowns.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys have been unable to strike a deal with Bryant, which is why he hasn’t participated in practices.

“Obviously when you have him, it makes things a little bit easier,” Romo said. “Tell him to come on back.”

While Dallas’ aerial attack should be fine, what about their run game?

For the Cowboys to max out their full potential offensively, Darren McFadden needs to pick up his game.

“I just want to go out there and continue to show people what I can do,” he said. “I still don’t think the world has seen the best of Darren McFadden.”

It won’t hurt that McFadden will be running behind the best offensive line in football either.

“It’s self-explanatory, when you look at those guys on film, they’re just opening holes,” McFadden said. “They have a great group of guys that are working hard. Even there now working out, the whole O-line is there right now before OTAs, so it’s a great group of guys and they have a great thing going. … I’m looking forward to being there with them.”

It should be another fun season in Dallas.

6. Denver Broncos – Peyton Manning (QB), C.J. Anderson/Montee Ball (RB), Emmanuel Sanders (WR) and Demaryius Thomas (WR).

Why are they ranked here?

The narrative of Peyton Manning falling off has been a bit overblown. Although Manning did show flashes of regression in 2014, he still managed to toss 39 touchdowns with a 66.2 completion rating.

Denver finished second in scoring (30.1), fourth in yards (402.9) and fourth in passing yards (291.3).

Some believe this will be Peyton’s farewell tour, but not so fast. 

“I wouldn’t call it that. That’s not how I see it,” Manning said.

And when you think about it, why would Manning want to leave Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders?

The wide receiver duo combined for 212 catches, 3,023 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2014.

Also, Denver’s rushing attack is better than people give it credit for. They finished 15th in rushing last year, as they averaged 111.6 yards a game on the ground.

C.J. Anderson led the way with 849 yards on a 4.7 yards per carry average.

However, Montee Ball wants to be that guy in 2015.

“C.J. deserves the No. 1 spot right now. I’m most definitely going to try to work to get it back. And I believe that I will. I like coming in and being the underdog, just keeping my head down, my mouth shut and just working.”

No mater who the starting back is, expect to see a healthy dose of both guys.

Whenever you have Manning, along with two elite receivers, it’s safe to say Denver will be more than capable of putting up points in bunches.

5. San Diego Chargers – Philip Rivers (QB), Melvin Gordon/Branden Oliver (RB), Keenan Allen (WR) and Antonio Gates (TE).

Why are they ranked here?

When it comes to overall depth at the skill positions, the San Diego Chargers may have the most of it.They have guys like rookie Melvin Gordon, Branden Oliver, Keenan Allen, Malcolm Floyd, Stevie Johnson, Danny Woodhead and even Jacoby Jones.

Not to mention the obvious suspects in Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates.

With their depth in the pass catcher department, getting production from the running game is something that would take San Diego’s offense to another level.

Branden Oliver had a solid rookie campaign, but Melvin Gordon is someone Philip Rivers is well aware of.

“Oh, it’s exciting! I know a lot of us and the guys on this team saw those highlights of his on Saturday nights.  We watched those big games.  He had some really, really big games and it seemed like he was having them every week.  He adds another element to our running back group, which is great.  I’ve said this to you a number of times how I think we’re at our best when we are balanced.  I think he gives us a better chance to be that.”

San Diego was 10th in passing last year, but they ranked 30th on the ground. If Gordon is able to live up to the hype, it’ll force defenses to be honest, which will open up things even more for Rivers down the field.

4. New England Patriots – Tom Brady (QB), LeGarrette Blount/Jonas Gray (RB), Brandon LaFell (WR), Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski (TE).

Why are they ranked here?

It was only a matter of time before the Super Bowl champions made an appearance on the list. New England averaged nearly 30 points a game (29.2) last year, which was good enough for 4th in the league.

According to Tom Brady standards, 33 touchdowns may seem a bit low, but he did a wonderful job of spreading the ball around.

Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and Brandon LaFell all caught over 70 passes, with Edelman leading the way at 92 catches.

However, with Tom Brady being suspended for the first four games, New England will have to trout out Jimmy Garoppolo under center.

“I’m just going out to practice every day trying to improve, trying to get my teammates better and be better,” Garoppolo said. “We’ll go from there. I just have the mindset that I’m trying to get better. That’s all you can control at the end of the day.”

Having Gronk at his disposal is a good security blanket to have and relying more on the run is something New England may have to do as well.

LeGarrette Blount is suspended for the first game of the season, which means Jonas Gray has the chance to get things rolling early.

“I think any season that ends and didn’t end the way you wanted it to on a personal level is added motivation. I think I ended of the year well [with a Super Bowl], but personally I have a lot to improve.”

When Brady comes back, everything will go back to normal.
