Which NFL Team Has The Best Offensive Weaponry?- Best Of The Worst
Check out the worst offensively skilled teams in the NFL.
Championships are won between the trenches, but regular season games can be won from you skill position guys. For the casual fan, this piece is for you.
32. Cleveland Browns – Josh McCown/Johnny Manziel (QB’s), Isaiah Crowell (RB), Dwayne Bowe (WR), Brian Hartline (WR) and Taylor Gabriel (WR).
Why are they ranked here?
First of all, the Cleveland Browns don’t even know who their quarterback is but all signs point to veteran Josh McCown as of right now.
Last year, Cleveland threw the least touchdown passes (12), while only averaging 3.6 yards per carry. The Browns picked up Bowe and Hartline this off-season, but both had disappointing campaigns in 2014.
The Kansas City Chiefs went the entire season without completing one touchdown to a wide receiver, which included Bowe of course.
On the flip side, Hartline saw a dramatic dip in his numbers from 2013, when he caught 76 passes for 1,016 yards. This past season, the 6-foot-2 wide receiver only snatched down 39 catches for 474 yards.
In order for Cleveland to improve it’s offense, running back Isaiah Crowell must take his game to the next level. In limited action , Crowell was able to sniff the end zone 8 times last year.
If Cleveland is able to find some stability at quarterback and develop any kind of rushing attack, it’ll make life easier for their subpar receiving core.
31. St. Louis Rams – Nick Foles (QB), Todd Gurley/Tre Mason (RB’s), Kenny Britt (WR), Tavon Austin (WR) and Jared Cook (TE).
Why are they ranked here?
After finally deciding to part ways with Sam Bradford, the St. Louis Rams are ready to move forward with Nick Foles.
The former Eagle has shown flashes of brilliance, but will he be able to stay healthy is the question?
The uncertainty of Foles’ health is a major reason for this ranking to go along with rookie Todd Gurley and the Rams unproven wide receiver core.
Britt’s best days are most likely behind him and Austin has been nothing short of a bust thus far.
While St. Louis will never see the ‘greatest show on turf’ again, this will have to do for right now. After spending a coveted top 10 pick on Gurley, the pressure to succeed is present.
30. Tennessee Titans – Marcus Mariota (QB), Bishop Sankey (RB), Kendall Wright (WR), Hakeem Nicks (WR), Dorial Green-Beckham (WR) and Delanie Walker (TE).
Why are they ranked here?
The Tennessee Titans haven’t had a franchise quarterback since the late Steve McNair. However, the organization feels Marcus Mariota is their guy.
The reigning Heisman trophy winner will have his hands full for sure. Tennessee ranked 29th in total offense just a season ago, averaging a dismal 15.9 points a game.
To make matters worse, Tennessee didn’t add much skill position help. Sure, they added an injury prone Hakeem Nicks and troubled Dorial Green-Beckham, but how much can you realistically expect from those two?
Meanwhile, Running back Bishop Sankey is prepping for his second year, which could be a breakout one. During his rookie campaign, Sankey totaled 152 carries for 569 yards.
Tennessee’s offense won’t transform overnight, but with Mariota being the man in charge, Titans fans finally have a sense of hope.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars – Blake Bortles (QB), Toby Gerhart/T.J. Yeldon (RB), Marqise Lee (WR), Allen Hurns (WR) and Julius Thomas (TE).
Why are they ranked here?
The future appears to be bright in Jacksonville.
Quarterback of the future Blake Bortles was sacked a total 55 times, which was more than any other quarterback. With that in mind, Jacksonville signed center Stefan Wisniewski and tackle Jermey Parnell.
As Jacksonville’s offensive line is sure to be vastly improved, Toby Gerhart and T.J. Yeldon have an opportunity to become a dynamic two headed monster, while Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns hope to become more consistent threats.
This group of skill guys have potential to be much higher on this list, but there’s just too many unknowns at this point and time. Even Julius Thomas is a question mark because he’s injury prone and he could just be a product of Peyton Manning.
Only time will tell.
28. New York Jets – Geno Smith (QB), Chris Ivory (RB), Brandon Marshall (WR) and Eric Decker (WR).
Why are they ranked here?
Surely the combination of Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall is enough to warrant a higher ranking, right?
Well, I advise you to think again.
The quarterback of the New York Jets is still Geno Smith. And while I do believe Geno has all of the physical tools to be successful, the question is does he have it upstairs?
The addition of Marshall should help Geno immensely, considering he’s dealt with the much maligned Jay Cutler for several seasons.
Furthermore, when things aren’t going well in the air, it’ll be essential for Chris Ivory to deliver on the ground. On nearly 200 carries in 2014, Ivory generated 821 yards, which is 4.1 yards per carry to go along with 4 touchdowns.
