Which NFL Coaches Seat Is Hottest For 2015 Part II- No Real Pressure

Find out which coaches are likely safe for this season unless things completely fall apart.

We know that there are numerous coaching changes in the NFL each offseason.  Although we don’t know exactly which teams will flop, we do have an idea of which coaches need to be successful to hold on to their jobs.

We will rank which coaches seats are the hottest entering the 2015 season.

Our first volume featured the “safest” coaches for this year and why.

As we move to the second part, here are coaches that aren’t under a lot of pressure.

  1. Mike Tomlin- The Pittsburgh Steelers are the most stable franchise in the NFL, regarding their commitment to their head coaches. Tomlin is just the third head coach of the franchise in the last 46 years.  Tomlin has a Super Bowl victory on his resume (with Bill Cowher’s players) and that is enough equity to keep his job for quite a while.  With that said, Tomlin’s teams haven’t won a playoff game since the 2010 season and a loss at home to Baltimore this past January may begin the dissipation of that equity.  The Steelers are entering a transition period and if they didn’t have Ben Roethisberger they would likely embrace a full rebuild.  It’s unlikely that even in a disastrous season Tomlin would get let go, but his overall body of work compared to what he started with should not have him mentioned as a Top 5 coach which he often is.

  1. Todd Bowles- It’s unlikely that Bowles could possibly be a one-and-done in New York, especially considering the offseason spending spree that the team went on.  With that said, Woody Johnson did blow out a general manager after just two seasons.  Bowles team should be improved and expectations are pretty much tempered, considering there’s likely not a real answer at quarterback.  Bowles defense would have to completely fall apart and there would have to be a players revolt to get him to the unemployment line.

  1. John Fox- Fox has the inherent advantage of being a first-year head coach, taking over a team that is the Las Vegas favorite to finish last in their division.  Fox was a sought after commodity in the offseason and the Bears also have a new general manager so that certainly helps in terms of job security.  Although it’s unlikely that Foxie will make the playoffs in 2015, he really doesn’t need to as long as the team shows improvement.

  1. Dan Quinn- Dan Quinn has the advantage of working for Arthur Blank, who is a very loyal owner.  Quinn takes over a talented offensive team with a horrific defense, which is his specialty.  After the last two seasons, great things aren’t demanded yet from the Falcons, and Quinn should get at least 2-3 seasons to prove himself one way or the other.

           23. Rex Ryan- There’s great excitement for Rex Ryan in Buffalo, and he, like John Fox is taking over a stagnant franchise that has some talent.  Ryan has already made a playoff proclamation and that’s a possibility, assuming he gets some decent play from the quarterback position.  It would be a pretty big shock if Ryan was a one-and-done, but his mouth could get him into trouble more so than the guys ahead of him on the list.
