Things are beginning to get serious as we’re entering the end of the first quarter of the season. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the six most intriguing matchups this week.

Jets at Dolphins (9:30 EST) – These two division foes are looking to avenge losses from a week ago. New York received their first loss of the season at the hands of the Eagles, while Miami was demolished by the Bills, 41-14.

On paper, this game looks to be a fairly low scoring game. Yes, Miami’s defense hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far, but the Jets offense coming to London may be exactly what they need to get on the right path.

Giants at Bills (1:00 EST) – As mentioned before, the Bills are coming into this matchup with tons of momentum after their impressive showing against Miami. Meanwhile, the Giants were finally able to get into the win column last Thursday against the ‘Skins.

In this battle of New York teams (sorta), the team that’s able to make more big plays and take care of the football should come away victorious.  This should be one of the best inter-conference matchups of the weekend.

Panthers at Buccaneers (1:00 EST) – Carolina is 3-0 and for some reason they’re still under the radar. Maybe it’s because their offense doesn’t always look pretty or maybe it’s because their defensive mentality lures the casual fan to sleep.

Whatever the case may be, it’ll be interesting to see if Jameis Winston can outclass his mentor, Cam Newton.

Chiefs at Bengals (1:00 EST) – It’s still a little too early to say Kansas City is in a must-win predicament, but the thought of being 1-3 has to be a scary proposition for Chiefs fans.

What’s even more scarier is trying to get a win at Cincinnati. The Bengals are not only unbeaten, but they’re tough to beat in the Jungle. However, the Chiefs are getting Sean Smith back, which should help their depleted secondary.

Cowboys at Saints (8:30 EST) – Earlier in the week, this contest was looking to be a matchup between backup quarterbacks, but it looks like Drew Brees may be able to give it a go.

Brandon Weeden showed he’s capable of being a solid starter last week vs. Atlanta. However, the Saints are at home and they’re thirsty to get into the win column. This one could be a shootout.

Lions at Seahawks (8:30 EST) – Detroit’s offense has so much potential, but Matthew Stafford has been unable to consistently get the ball to his playmakers thus far.

If the Lions have any hope of pulling off the upset in Seattle, Stafford and company will have to be sharp on offense because with Kam Chancellor back in the fold, the Seahawks are yet to give up a point defensively.
