Week 3 Power Rankings Bonanza- Whose Seat Is Hottest?
Find out which seats are the hottest this week for NFL head coaches.
As we move on with our “Power Rankings Bonanza,” it’s time to take the temperature of some of the hottest seats for coaches in the National Football League.
1. Gus Bradley, Jacksonville Jaguars
After his team failed to show up in a 38-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley is firmly entrenched in the No. 1 spot on our “Hot Seat Rankings.” There have been 170 NFL head coaches that have coached 50 games and Bradley’s 12-38 record ranks 169th out of 170. He’s a great guy, and everyone seems to like him, but the talent is there for the Jaguars and they look woefully unprepared on a week to week basis.
2. Rex Ryan, Buffalo Bills
After dropping their second straight game to open the season, Ryan gave the ax to offensive coordinator Greg Roman on Friday. This was a nice way of passing the buck for Ryan, but it’s only going to go so far as the team entered this season with playoff aspirations. With all of the injuries and suspensions the Bills have endured, it seemed like it just might spare Ryan, but that no longer seems like the case.
3. Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts may be the 0-2 team in the best position to turn things around due to quarterback Andrew Luck, but it’s not likely to happen under Pagano’s watch. Indy is thoroughly outcoached on a weekly basis and Pagano has the benefit of having the best young quarterback in the game, which should be good for at least 7-8 wins alone.
4. Jay Gruden, Washington Redskins
Gruden’s Redskins were a surprise last year as they won the NFC East title, but now he’s a victim of his own expectations and an 0-2 start in a weak division certainly isn’t helping. Gruden hitched his coaching wagon and job security to quarterback Kirk Cousins and now that Cousins has regressed it’s a bad reflection on Gruden. The ‘Skins have a shot to turn things around due to the strength (or lack thereof) in the division, but that will fall on their leader if they can’t.
5. Jeff Fisher, Los Angeles Rams
So Jeff Fisher’s team won a game. Woohoo! This will probably convince owner Stan Kroenke to give him a three-year extension. The offense is still the only one in the league yet to score a touchdown and Fisher is still too afraid or can’t seem to figure out how to devise an offensive system around the No. 1 pick in the draft. Fisher won’t be fired, but that doesn’t mean he’s a good coach.
