Week 2: Most Intriguing Games To Watch In The NFL
Find out what games you should be watching in Week 2.
With Week 1 of the NFL season officially in the books, it’s time to concentrate on Week 2. While half of the league is looking to remain unbeaten, the other half is just hoping to get into the win column.
Teams who start 0-2 have a bad track record of making the playoffs (roughly 11 percent), which is why this weekend is more vital than one may think. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the most intriguing matchups this Sunday.
Patriots at Bills (1:00 EST) – When Rex Ryan was the New York Jets head coach, the two or three times per year his team faced the Patriots it was a big deal. Now, with Ryan being in Buffalo, things will feel the same.
For one game at least, the Bills defense lived up to expectations, as they flustered Andrew Luck for majority of the game this past Sunday. The Pro Bowl quarterback completed only 53 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
It’ll be interesting to see if Buffalo will be able to cause Tom Brady similar problems.
Titans at Browns (1:00 EST) – When you look at these two teams you’re probably wondering why this contest made the cut.
This matchup will potentially feature a quarterback duel between Marcus Mariota and Johnny Manziel. Last week, Mariota tossed four touchdowns with no interceptions, while Manziel was inserted into the lineup when Josh McCown went down with a concussion.
Unlike Mariota, Manziel’s performance was pretty average. He was 13 for 24, for 182 yards to go along with a touchdown and a pick.
Things shouldn’t be as comfortable for Mariota this time around against a much more formidable Cleveland defense and maybe Manziel will be able to find his rhythm at home.
Chargers at Bengals (1:00 EST) – The last time these two teams met was back in the 2013 playoffs, when San Diego dominated the Bengals 27-10.
Stakes aren’t as high this time around, however, it’s a very intriguing matchup to say the least. When you look at the talent on both sides, it’s clear to see how even of a matchup this is on paper.
Philip Rivers started off slow last week against Detroit, but once he found a rhythm, it was over.
Chargers head coach Mike McCoy fully believes in his veteran quarterback.
“Any time that you have a quarterback like Philip Rivers, you have a chance,” McCoy said.
Cincy started their season on the road, where they slaughtered Oakland to the tune of 33-13. Andy Dalton looked like the $115 million dollar man that he is, as he completed 73 percent of his passes with two touchdowns.
Cowboys at Eagles (4:25 EST) – Week 1 was a thrilling experience for both the Cowboys and Eagles, but only Dallas came away victorious.
The Cowboys were the beneficiary of New York’s poor clock management, which led to a Tony Romo game-winning touchdown with seconds remaining, while Philly missed a field goal late coupled with a crucial Sam Bradford interception to end the game.
As the two prepare to face off against each other, Dallas must figure out how to combat the loss of Dez Bryant.
The Eagles offense should be able to put up points against the Boys defense, the question is will Romo and company be able to match in production?
Falcons at Giants (1:00 EST) – Similar to the Cowboys-Eagles matchup, the Falcons and Giants are coming off completely different emotions.
New York self-destructed in Dallas, while the Falcons finished their home opening victory in dramatic fashion. Moving forward, both franchises are looking to make the postseason after missing out over the past couple of seasons.
The Giants haven’t seen playoff football since they won the Super Bowl back in 2011 and Atlanta hasn’t made it since 2012.
Just a season ago, Atlanta went 3-5 on the road with one of those losses coming against the Giants (30-20).
Seahawks at Packers (8:20 EST) – After being upset by the St. Louis Rams, some thought the front office and Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor would possibly find common ground on a deal.
However, that isn’t the case as Chancellor won’t be playing this Sunday at Green Bay, which isn’t good news when facing a guy named Aaron Rodgers. Also, the Packers are looking for a little payback from their heartbreaking defeat to Seattle last year in the NFC Championship Game.
It’s perfect that this is the Sunday night matchup in primetime, as this figures to be one of the better games of the entire season.
