Vikings, Steelers to meet in Hall of Fame Game

Published

on

The Minnesota Vikings will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the annual Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, Aug. 9 in Canton, Ohio, to kick off the 2015 NFL preseason.

The matchup, which was announced Wednesday, will be televised nationally on NBC’s ‘Sunday Night Football’ at 8 p.m. ET, one day after the 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame class is inducted.

“This is a tremendous honor for our organization to be featured in the Hall of Fame Game,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. “It will give our players and coaches an extra week to prepare for the regular season and an additional opportunity for us to evaluate our roster. Pairing the game with Mick (Tingelhoff) going into the Hall of Fame, it will be a special weekend for the Minnesota Vikings and our fans.”

The 2015 class includes Tingelhoff, the longtime former Vikings center who is the 13th member of the organization to be enshrined, and Jerome Bettis, a running back who played 10 of his 13 NFL seasons with the Steelers and rushed for 13,662 career yards.

Other inductees are Tim Brown, Charles Haley, Bill Polian, Junior Seau, Will Shields, and Ron Wolf.

The Vikings last played in the Hall of Fame Game in 1997. The Steelers have appeared in the game six times previously, with their last visit to Canton a 20-7 victory over the New Orleans Saints in 2007.

The Steelers and Vikings faced off in Super Bowl IX, a 16-6 Pittsburgh victory in a game that included 19 future Hall of Famers.
