Vikings add OT Webb, put Loadholt on IR
The Minnesota Vikings signed free agent offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb and placed offensive tackle Phil Loadholt on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday.
Loadholt tore a pectoral muscle in the Vikings’ 24-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday.
“Obviously we’ll miss him,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. “But we’re not going to let it hold us back from what we’re trying to get done.”
Webb worked out for the Vikings on Tuesday before signing. He’s expected to provide offensive line depth while Mike Harris takes over for Loadholt at right tackle.
The 26-year-old Webb played for the Vikings in 2013, appearing in eight games and starting one. He signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Kansas City Chiefs during the offseason and was with the team in training camp this summer but failed to make the final roster.
A five-year NFL veteran, Webb was drafted in the seventh round in 2010 by the Chicago Bears and was a starter in Chicago until 2012. He has played in 54 NFL games and started 45 during his career.
