Vikings 19, Buccaneers 13

TAMPA, Fla. — Linebacker Anthony Barr forced a fumble and returned it 27 yards for a game-winning touchdown in overtime as the Minnesota Vikings beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-13 on Sunday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater led the Vikings on a nine-play, 61-yard drive to set up kicker Blair Walsh’s game-tying 38-yard field goal as time expired in regulation.

Two minutes earlier, Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon connected with rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins for a 7-yard touchdown pass that put Tampa Bay ahead by three.

On the first play in overtime, Glennon completed a pass to Seferian-Jenkins for 10 yards. Barr knocked the ball loose, scooped it up and dashed into the end zone for the game-winning score.

The call on the field was confirmed after a short review.

Only minutes earlier, it seemed the Vikings (3-5) had wasted an early lead.

After running back Mike James converted on fourth-and-1 from the Vikings’ 8-yard line with 2:35 remaining, Glennon rolled out to his right and threw across the field to a leaping Seferian-Jenkins for his first career touchdown reception.

It was an encouraging sign for the Bucs, whose offense sputtered and stalled throughout the first three quarters before scoring 13 straight.

How inept was the Bucs’ offense early on? They had more penalty yards (35) than passing yards (25) in the first half. They finished the first half with four first downs, two of them coming within the first three plays of the game.

The Bucs (1-6) have scored only 17 points in the first quarter and 27 points in the opening half through seven games this season.

Not that the Vikings posed much more of a threat. Having scored 29 points over their last three games entering Sunday’s matchup, they managed only 131 total yards in the first half.

But the Vikings eventually broke through. Walsh nailed a 46-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give Minnesota a 3-0 lead.

The Vikings added to their lead on their second drive of the third quarter, capping off a six-play, 63-yard scoring drive with a perfectly placed 17-yard touchdown pass from Bridgewater to wide receiver Greg Jennings.

The Bucs finally got on the board in the fourth quarter, as kicker Patrick Murray hit a pair of field goals from 54 and 45 yards to make it 10-6.

NOTES: Buccaneers DBs Dashon Goldson (ankle) and Johnthan Banks (neck) returned to the starting lineup Sunday. … Tampa Bay QB Josh McCown (right thumb injury) was active for the first time since Sept. 18 but did not start. He began the season as the starter before Mike Glennon took his spot. … The Vikings started Joe Berger at right guard in place of Vladimir Ducasse, who was inactive. … Bucs RB Doug Martin left the game with an ankle injury and did not return.
