Vereen to join Giants

Published

on

Running back Shane Vereen agreed to a contract with the New York Giants on Tuesday.

The deal can be finalized after 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Vereen caught 12 passes in the Super Bowl and totaled 99 catches in the regular season in 2013 and 2015.

He was second on the team in rushing (391 yards) in 2014 after Stevan Ridley went down with a knee injury and had 52 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

The Giants envision Andre Williams and Rashad Jennings as the physical, between-the-tackles runners but Vereen is a capable ballcarrier and elusive receiver. Jennings caught 30 passes in 2014 but is not a serious threat after the catch.
