Top Draft Kings Plays For NFL’s Week 5

Who are the best plays in Draft Kings for Week 5? Check out this position-by-position breakdown.

Throughout the NFL season, Football Insiders’ fantasy expert Michael Gonzalez will be providing advice to help you assemble your Draft Kings team. He will be providing three solid plays at each position – a high-priced option, middle-priced option and low-priced option – so you can find talented players for your roster and stay under the $50,000 salary cap.

He’ll tell you who are the best values based on their Draft Kings salary. Be sure to sign up for Draft Kings’ Week 5 league, which has a $3 entry (or FREE for first time users) and a $100,00 first-place prize. Here are Michael’s value picks for Week 5:

QUARTERBACKS

Tom Brady, New England Patriots $7800

NE@DAL

The top two options at quarterback this year have been Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.  These two guys are why we watch NFL football three days each week, and they both are performing at a very high level.  In Week 5, Brady has the much better matchup between the two, as he will go up against a Dallas Cowboys defense that just let Drew Brees throw for 359 yards and two touchdowns.  If the under-performing Saints can put up big numbers in the air against Dallas, Brady and Rob Gronkowski can do that and perhaps more.

Eli Manning, New York Giants $6800

SF@NYG

Eli Manning is as consistent as it gets.  He always seems like a safe play no matter what type of fantasy football format you are playing in.  Manning is having a good year, and has thrown seven touchdowns over the past three weeks.  In Week 5, he will be at home against a very shaky San Francisco defense.  The Niners surprisingly had a good showing last week against Aaron Rodgers, but were absolutely picked apart in weeks before that through the air.  In Week 5, I predict Manning throws for a couple scores and around 275 yards, making him a great mid-tier quarterback play in Week 5.

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears $5300

CHI@KC

Cutler and the Bears travel to Kansas City in Week 5, and he is your best low-priced option on Draft Kings this week.  Against the Raiders last week, Cutler was 28 for 43 for 281 yards and two touchdowns.  Against the Chiefs, you should expect to see him throw the ball a lot.  Kansas City comes in as the fifth-worst defense against the pass this year, so it’s pretty clear that the Bears will rely on the pass to move the ball this Sunday, making Cutler a great value play.

RUNNING BACKS

Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers $7500

PIT@SD

With Ben Roethlisberger missing time, Mike Vick is the interim quarterback for the Steelers.  In Week 4, with Vick under center, Bell ran the ball 22 time and caught all seven of his targets, which was the second on the team to Antonio Brown (nine).  It was very apparent watching the game that the Steelers are going to lean on Bell for the majority of their offense while Big Ben is gone.  Bell’s large workload, combined with a great matchup against the Chargers, who rank fourth-worst against the rush, is a recipe for a huge game from Le’Veon Bell.

Justin Forsett, Baltimore Ravens $5800

CLE@BAL

Forsett finally had a good game last week, and fantasy owners everywhere took a huge sigh of relief.  He carried the ball 27 times, which was the second-most among all running backs in Week 4, and turned those rushes into 150 yards.  Forsett showed last year that he is a shifty back with vision, and with Steve Smith going down, you can expect the Ravens to jump on Forsett’s back, and utilize him as their main threat in a Week 5 matchup against a Browns defense that is giving up the second-most rushing yards per game (136.8).

Todd Gurley, St. Louis Rams $4300

STL@GB

Gurley was a first-round draft pick by the Rams this year and as soon as the pick was made, it felt like the Rams had big plans for the explosive back.  St. Louis took their time with Gurley, who was coming off ACL surgery.  Gurley was a freight train in the second half of Week 4, and has the potential to be a star running back in this league.  He dominated the touches out of the backfield last week, and expect his touches to increase this week.  We could see Gurley fed the ball early and often, being the Rams’ focal point on offense.  Jump all over him while he’s cheap, because Draft Kings is probably not going to be able to afford to keep him priced this way much longer.

Bobbie Dixon, Buffalo Bills $3000

BUF@TEN

Dixon is the cheapest running back in Week 5.  Due to starter LeSean McCoy and backup Karlos Williams both being injured and not practicing this week, all signs point to Dixon being the healthiest and only option for the Bills out of the backfield.   The Bills are a run-heavy offense, making Dixon a great play at this price point.  Any production will be a steal since he’s so cheap, throw him in your lineup and load up at other spots.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons $9200

WAS@ATL

Julio was a let down last week, as he only had four catches for 38 yards.  The Falcons were winning in a blow out against Houston and ended up just running ball a lot.  Do you really expect Jones, who has been so locked in this year, to be quieted two weeks straight?  No chance.  Julio is the best fantasy receiver in the game this year: play him in Week 5.

Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars $5500

JAX@TB

Robinson is the number one option for young franchise quarterback Blake Bortles.  He’s capable of big plays, and Bortles keeps hitting him with deep shots down the field.  The Bucs are susceptible to big plays, making Robinson a great play in Week 5.  Bortles will test the Bucs’ secondary a lot this week, and I’m expecting Robinson to be the guy with huge numbers in this matchup.

John Brown, Arizona Cardinals $5100

ARI@DET

Brown is due for a touchdown this week.  He hasn’t scored since Week 1 and is a big play waiting to happen.  Despite the scoring drought, Brown is still second on his team in both targets, receptions and yards.  I’m calling it, Brown gets behind the secondary and catches a deep ball from Palmer in Week 5.

Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks $3400

SEA@CIN

Lockett is an impressive young talent who reminded me of Percy Harvin running around for the Seahawks last week on offense and returning kicks.  He’s extremely fast, and was Russell Wilson’s favorite target on Monday night.  You could see Lockett be used regularly in this Seattle offense, which needs a big play threat.  He has shown big play ability, already returning two touchdowns on special teams.  Play the sleeper and look like a genius this Sunday.

TIGHT ENDS

Rob Gronkowski,  New England Patriots $7500

NE@DAL

Gronkowski may hold a record for longest active streak on my daily fantasy good play list.  Gronk is playing with Brady, who has been lights out, he’s a freak athlete and the best tight end in football.  It will be a let down if he doesn’t have around 100 yards and a score.  If you go cheap at skill, utilize Gronk who’s capable of being your MVP on any given week.

Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers $4200

PIT@SD

Gates is coming off a 2014 campaign where he was the best fantasy tight end.  Fast forward to this week, and the 35-year-old veteran tight end is making his first start this year.  The rest was probably good for Gates, and expect him to be more than ready to go for his first game of the season in Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Chargers and Philip Rivers have momentum on their side after a nice win over the Bears, and will want to send a message against the Steelers.  Look up the definition of chemistry, and you will see Rivers to Gates.  He’s a cheaper option in Week 5, making him my favorite mid-tier option on Draft Kings for this week.

Owen Daniels, TE, Denver Broncos $2900

DEN@DET

Daniels has caught just seven passes over the last two weeks, but they’ve been for 37 yards and two scores.  He has back-to-back weeks with a score, and I’m going to ride with Daniels until the sun sets.  He is playing with Peyton Manning, so why not shoot for three weeks in a row with a touchdown?  Daniels may find himself as the best low-tier option on this list each week if he continues to catch touchdowns and remains so cheap.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

Arizona Cardinals, @DET, $3800

The Cardinals had a bit of a fantasy hangover last week.  They gave up a bunch of yards, and only had one fantasy point against the Rams.  But in Week 3, they had 28 fantasy points and helped a lot of people win money on Draft Kings.  I expect this week against the Lions to be closer to their Week 3 outing, making them the top option in Week 5.

Buffalo Bills, @TEN, $3400

The Bills get after the quarterback and will have Marcus Mariota looking like a deer in the headlights in Week 5.  The Bills have been playing well on defense and this is a big game for them. Expect Rex Ryan’s crew to frustrate the rookie quarterback this week.

New York Giants, vs SF, $2900

The Giants have been steady on defense, shutting down the run and giving up most their yards through the air.  Enter Colin Kaepernick, who has not looked good throwing the ball.  Smells to me like the Giants have an interception or two, keep the yards and points low and are a great play for under $3,000 on defense in Week 5.

Be sure to enter this week’s Draft Kings league, which has a $3 entry fee (or free for first-time users) and a $1,500,000 prize pool. Check back each week for our top Draft Kings plays.

The Buccaneers made the definitive admission of their error on Saturday, cutting Aguayo. He exits with $428,000 in fully-guaranteed salary [more]
