Titans WR Hunter expected at training camp
The Sports Xchange
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter, who was charged with malicious wounding for his involvement in a July 3 bar fight, is expected at training camp next week.
Hunter was released on $25,000 bond Tuesday after being formally charged a day after he turned himself in to authorities in his hometown of Virginia Beach, Va. The charge stems from an incident in the oceanfront resort area during the Fourth of July weekend.
Hunter is accused of “malicious intent, stabbing, cutting and wounding” in a brawl that hospitalized one person in Virginia Beach. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Wendy Alexander alleged Hunter started the fight on July 3 when he interrupted a conversation a man was having with someone else. Hunter punched the man in the face twice, and the man suffered a broken jaw and a cracked tooth and was taken to a nearby hospital, Alexander said.
The Virginia Attorney’s Office said the felony is punishable by five to 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Hunter’s attorney, Toby Vick, told The Tennessean that Hunter would report to training camp in Nashville, Tenn., on July 30.
Hunter, 24, was Tennessee’s second-round pick in 2013. He has caught 46 passes for 852 yards and seven touchdowns. He missed the final four games last season after suffering a lacerated spleen against the Houston Texans.
