Titans QB Mariota to return to practice Wednesday
The Sports Xchange
Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota is expected to return to practice on Wednesday, Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said on Monday.
That means Mariota is likely to be back in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints and that Zach Mettenberger’s stint as the Titans’ starting quarterback is over.
Mariota injured his knee in Week 6, causing him to miss the past two games. The Titans not only lost both of those games, but did very little offensively. Tennessee lost to the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans and managed just 13 points in those two games combined.
Whisenhunt said Mariota “brings a different element” to the quarterback position, presumably referring to Mariota’s mobility.
The Titans are just 1-6, having lost six in a row since their season-opening victory, but they are just two games out of first place in the AFC South, where every team had a losing record after Sunday’s action.
