Titans name LeBeau assistant head coach
The Tennessee Titans officially named Dick LeBeau assistant head coach for defense on Thursday and also added the title of assistant head coach for tight ends coach Mike Mularkey.
The Titans also hired Jason Tucker as an assistant wide receivers coach.
LeBeau reunites with coach Ken Whisenhunt and defensive coordinator Ray Horton, who worked with him in Pittsburgh.
LeBeau, 77, has been in the NFL for 56 years — 14 as a player and 42 as a coach. He spent the past 13 years as the Steelers’ defensive coordinator.
“This is a unique opportunity to add someone like Dick to our coaching staff,” Whisenhunt said. “He is a proven commodity in this league and great teacher. One of his greatest assets is the rare ability to relate to all different kinds of players and get the most of them. We had a lot of success together in Pittsburgh and I am looking forward to working together again.”
The Titans ranked 27th in yards allowed last season and 30th in points allowed.
Whisenhunt reportedly had blocked Mularkey — another former Steelers assistant and the former head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars — from interviewing for offensive coordinator jobs in Tampa Bay and Chicago last month. With the promotion, Mularkey is expected to be more involved in the running game.
Tucker, who had coached receivers in the CFL for the past six years, replaces Kevin Patullo, who is now the quarterbacks coach with the New York Jets.
