Titans DGB stopped for speeding, fined for warrant
The Sports Xchange
NASHVILLE — Tennessee Titans rookie receiver Dorial Green-Beckham was arrested on Sept. 30 after a traffic stop in Van Buren, Mo., for going 65 in a 55 mph zone.
Going 10 miles over the speed limit was not Green-Beckham’s problem. His previously unpaid ticket and the resulting warrant for his arrest attached was a problem. Green-Beckham paid the fine of $92.48 and was freed with the matter ending.
The receiver, who had several notable off-field incidents while in college, had no issues with the Titans, and last week’s minor incident was one that caught him off guard, he said, because he said he didn’t realize he had the outstanding fine to pay.
“It was a big surprise to me,” he said. “It was just a misunderstanding. At the time, I was told it was a warning, and it turned out to be a ticket that I had no idea of.”
As for the incident being a possible setback for a player trying to stay on the straight and narrow after a checkered past in college, DGB said he isn’t worried about any lingering repercussions.
“I’m not worried at all,” he said. “The past is the past, and I’ve learned from that or I wouldn’t be here now,” he said. “I’ve learned from those mistakes and grown up and matured.”
–Linebacker Zach Brown sent out an unusual tweet the day after the Titans lost to the Colts, 35-33. Brown sent out a tweet that said, “Ready to move on,” directing it on social media at former Titans linebacker Akeem Ayers.
Ayers, who fell out of favor last year in Tennessee, was traded in midseason to the Patriots, where he went on to win a Super Bowl. He has since signed with the Rams.
Brown perhaps was upset about criticism he received for running into Derrick Morgan following an interception. Morgan had Andrew Luck blocked for Brown on the return, but Brown did not cut either way and wound up going down at the Colts 13-yard line. The Titans managed only three points out of the turnover, rather than seven.
Asked about the tweet on Wednesday, Brown shied away from any comments regarding it.
“If it’s not about Buffalo, I’m not gonna talk about it. It’s as simple as that. It’s social media. It’s not football,” Brown said. “If y’all want to talk about football, I’ll be happy to talk.”
Notes: Linebacker Wesley Woodyard was not at practice on Wednesday as he was away for the birth of his child. … Defensive tackle Sammie Hill (knee) practiced for the first time since having surgery on a torn meniscus just before the season started. … Cornerback Cody Riggs (knee) was back practicing fully after missing the past two games. … Guard Chance Warmack (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice. … Quarterback Marcus Mariota is only four touchdown passes away from tying the franchise record for scoring tosses by a rookie quarterback. Vince Young holds the mark with 12 in 2006.
