The Houston Texans placed quarterback Tom Savage on injured reserve and officially released Louis Nix and Charles James among 22 roster moves Saturday.

Also let go were running back Kenny Hilliard; wide receivers Damarius Johnson, EZ Nwachukwu and Chandler Worthy; offensive linemen Matt Feiler, James Ferentz and Joseph Treadwell; defensive linemen Tevita Finau, Dan Pettinato, Brandon Deaderick and Dili Moala; linebackers Kourtnei Brown and Max Bullough; and defensive backs Kurtis Drummond, Charles James and Corey Moore.

Linebackers Lynden Trail and Tony Washington were waived/injured, and guard Chad Slade also was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Savage, the Texans’ third quarterback, was expected to miss four to six weeks with a badly sprained shoulder, but the team decided to shelve him for the year. The Texans have starter Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett as their QBs.

The Texans drafted Nix in the third round last year, but he spent his rookie season on injured reserve.

James, a cornerback who stood out on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” had been shopped for trade but the Texans couldn’t find a taker, the Houston Chronicle reported.
