Texans’ Clowney undergoes knee exam
HOUSTON — Jadeveon Clowney spent Wednesday in Pensacola, Fla., being examined by Dr. James Andrews.
The Houston Texans outside linebacker has been experiencing pain since he returned from arthroscopic knee surgery. When he has played, his right knee swells to the point where he can’t practice or play until the swelling goes down.
The Texans could shut down Clowney for the season. He also could need more surgery.
“He went to Pensacola to meet with Dr. Andrews to run some more tests on his knee,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “I wouldn’t even call it a second opinion. I’d call it more a gathering of more information.
“When he returns, we’ll all sit down with our doctors, our medical people, Dr. Andrews, (general manager) Rick Smith and myself. We’ll make the best decision with that information we gather from our doctors (and) Dr. Andrews and move forward from there.
“It’s always in the best interest of the player, what’s best for the player.”
