The Philadelphia Eagles signed quarterback Tim Tebow, more than two years removed from his last NFL action, to a one-year contract Monday.

The Eagles made it official after news broke Sunday evening of the agreement.

Tebow, 27, worked out for the Eagles on March 16 and was scheduled to participate in Philadelphia’s offseason workouts, which began Monday.

Tebow will join an Eagles’ quarterback group that includes Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley and G.J. Kinne.

Since last appearing in a game for the New York Jets in 2012, Tebow joined ESPN as an analyst for the SEC Network in 2014, where he primarily worked on “SEC Nation.”

Originally a first-round draft choice (25th overall) of the Denver Broncos in 2010, the 6-foot-3, 236-pound Tebow has appeared in 35 games with 16 starts.

Tebow started three games for the Broncos as a rookie in 2010, throwing for 654 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 227 yards and six touchdowns on 43 carries. His 82.1 quarterback rating was the highest of the eight rookie quarterbacks that started a game in 2010.

In 2011, Tebow tied for second among NFL quarterbacks with six game-winning drives and helped guide the Broncos to an AFC West title and the team’s first playoff berth since 2005, including a postseason win. Tebow started the team’s final 11 games, totaling 1,730 passing yards and 12 touchdowns through the air, adding 660 rushing yards and six scores.

Following the 2011 season, Tebow was traded to the Jets and saw action in 11 games with two starts, completing six of eight passes for 39 yards and rushing 32 times for 102 yards, serving as Sanchez’s backup

Tebow was in training camp with the New England Patriots in August 2013 but did not make the team.

The first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy, Tebow was a collegiate standout at the University of Florida, setting Southeastern Conference records in total offense (12,232), rushing touchdown (57) and total touchdowns (145). A three-time first-team All-SEC honoree, he was a three-time finalist for the Heisman and was a two-time national champion, helping the team to BCS National Championships in 2006 and 2008.

Tebow, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., is a noted philanthropist, serving as the chairman for the Tim Tebow Foundation since its inception in 2010.
