Tannehill breaks Marino’s franchise record

Published

on

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill broke Dan Marino’s franchise record for completions in a single season with an 11-yard completion to Jarvis Landry in the third quarter of Sunday afternoon’s game against the New York Jets.

Tannehill, a third-year veteran from Texas A&M, is posting the top numbers of his young career in coach Joe Philbin’s quarterback-friendly system. Entering Sunday’s regular season finale, Tannehill had completed 369 of 551 attempts for 3,786 yards and 26 touchdowns. The Dolphins quarterback has increased his completion percentage from last season dramatically, while cutting down on his interception total.

Marino set the Dolphins franchise record in 1994 when he completed 385 of 615 attempts for 4,453 yards. Marino ranks third in NFL history for passing yards in a career.

The Dolphins were eliminated from AFC playoff contention last week in spite of a 37-35 win over the Vikings.
