The New England Patriots’ stunning last-minute victory over the Seattle Seahawks gave NBC a 49.7 overnight rating, the highest in Super Bowl history.

The Patriots won the game 28-24, sealing the dramatic finish with a goal-line interception with 20 seconds remaining.

Last year’s Super Bowl overnight rating was a 47.6 for the Seahawks’ blowout win over the Denver Broncos.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell called the game “one for the ages” at a final Super Bowl press conference Monday morning.

“Undoubtedly will be the most-viewed Super Bowl ever across all platforms,” Goodell said.

The Super Bowl’s total number of viewers, which could be an American television record, will be announced later Monday. The annual broadcast set audience records in six of the previous seven years.
