Still hospitalized, Browns’ Austin goes on IR
The Cleveland Browns placed wide receiver Miles Austin on injured reserve Wednesday after he was hospitalized with a kidney injury.
“Miles sustained a kidney injury in Buffalo and remains in the hospital,” coach Mike Pettine said in a statement Wednesday. “Our thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery. Miles is a guy who embodies what ‘Play like a Brown’ means and instills that in our receiving corps.”
Austin, 30, was taken to the hospital following Sunday’s 26-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He set season highs with seven catches for 86 yards in the game, then reported feeling abdominal pain.
The Browns will be without their second-leading receiver for the remainder of the season. The former Dallas Cowboys star will finish his ninth NFL season with 568 yards and two touchdowns on 47 receptions.
Austin, who signed with the Browns this offseason, appeared in 12 games with 11 starts. He has appeared in 118 career games and has totaled 348 receptions for 5,049 yards and 36 touchdowns.
The Browns also signed running back Shaun Draughn.
Draughn is 5-foot-11, 205 pounds and officially in his second NFL season out of North Carolina. Originally signed by Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2011, Draughn has appeared in 26 games and has 254 rushing yards on 73 carries with two touchdowns. He has added 24 career receptions for 158 yards and has averaged 23.1-yards on 28 kickoff returns.
Draughn has appeared in six games this season (two with Chicago and four with San Diego) and has 10 carries for 19 yards.
