Steelers QB Roethlisberger questionable for Chiefs

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report as his status for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs remains unresolved.

Roethlisberger has missed the past three games after spraining the MCL in his right knee and it appears the plan is to avoid playing him if possible. Third-year quarterback Landry Jones took all the first-team practice repetitions on Friday.

The Steelers have been preparing Jones to start all week after he replaced injured Michael Vick (hamstring) in last Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Vick has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, leaving Jones and Roethlisberger as Pittsburgh’s only available quarterbacks on the active roster.

The Steelers could promote receiver Tyler Murphy from the practice squad as an emergency option. Murphy was a college quarterback at Florida and Boston College and he has received some practice snaps this week.
