Spielman: No plans for Vikings to trade Peterson

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman did his best Tuesday to quiet speculation surrounding a possible trade of running back Adrian Peterson.

“We can just end the Adrian Peterson stuff,” Spielman said Tuesday. “Our position has not changed. … We have no interest in trading Adrian Peterson.”

Peterson was suspended last fall after his no-contest plea stemming from “abusive discipline” with his 4-year-old son. The NFL reinstated him earlier this month, making Peterson eligible to participate with the team in its scheduled activities and workouts.

Meanwhile, Peterson and his advisers have openly sought a trade from the Vikings.

“Our position has not changed — all the statements we’ve made at the owners meeting,” Spielman said. “Adrian Peterson is under contract, the suspension was lifted, we’re looking forward to having Adrian Peterson back here as a Minnesota Viking in 2015 and that’s the end of the story.

“I think coach (Mike) Zimmer stated it pretty clear that we have no interest in trading Adrian Peterson.”

Spielman also said he is looking at trading out of the 11th spot in the NFL Draft, which begins Thursday in Chicago. But he doesn’t expect the Vikings to move up in the order.

“When you get from the seventh or eighth pick down to the 20th pick, there isn’t that much difference,” he said.
