So Suh me: Dolphins cut DT Starks
Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Randy Starks was released on Wednesday, saving the team a $5 million salary due the 31-year-old veteran for 2015.
Starks was slated to be a backup on the reconfigured defensive line in Miami anchored by $114 million man Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell.
Subtracting Starks makes defensive tackle a need position for the Dolphins, but they are likely to be no more than budget shoppers after handing Suh $60 million guaranteed.
To make the money work with Suh, the Dolphins parted with defensive tackle Jared Odrick (free agent), Starks (released), cornerback Cortland Finnegan (released), linebacker Philip Wheeler (released) and wide receivers Brandon Gibson and Brian Hartline, both released.
Starks was consistent and productive for the Dolphins in his seven-year stay and is likely to draw interest on a short-term deal.
