Sherman active for Seahawks
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman confirmed he will play in Super Bowl XLIX.
Sherman is awaiting the birth of his first child, a son, and his girlfriend is near full-term pregnancy with a due date next week. Sherman said this week that he had a plan in place for Sunday’s game against the Patriots if his son is born early.
Sherman (elbow) and Seahawks safeties Earl Thomas (shoulder) and Kam Chancellor were on the injury report for Seattle but all three will play.
Chancellor wore a knee brace in early workouts on the field two hours before kickoff.
He was added to the injury report Friday after banging his knee on the second-to-last play of practice at Arizona State University.
–Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will be named head coach of the Atlanta Falcons as early as Tuesday. Quinn interviewed with the Falcons during the bye week and said the process was not a distraction. The Falcons had general manager Thomas Dimitroff and assistant GM Scott Pioli in town this week. A formal press conference is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
–Former linebacker Tedy Bruschi was announced as honorary team captain for the New England Patriots. The Patriots are 6-0 in games in which Brushci was honored.
“He was called the perfect Patriots by head coach Bill Belichick,” team CEO Robert Kraft said.
