Seahawks remove FS Thomas from PUP

While Kam Chancellor remains a holdout, the Seattle Seahawks got some good news about their other Pro Bowl safety on Wednesday: Earl Thomas passed his physical and was removed from the physically-unable-to-perform list.

Thomas is recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum, an injury he suffered in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers last season. He had missed the first five days of training camp, but he now can begin practicing.

An ESPN report a week before camp indicated Thomas might miss the season opener at St. Louis, but the team has never given a timeline.

Last Friday, coach Pete Carroll said, “We’re going to be really patient. … He’s worked really hard. He’s making great progress. The timeline: Let’s wait and see how long it takes for it to be really safe and secure for him to come out. He plays this game with such reckless abandon, he’s got to be 100 percent ready to go. We’re not going to jump the gun on that at all.”

Thomas was one of four players who started camp on PUP. Wide receiver Paul Richardson (ACL) and cornerbacks Jeremy Lane (ACL, arm) and Tharold Simon (shoulder) are still on the list.

The Seahawks also waived linebacker Alex Singleton on Wednesday.
