RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks announced they agreed to terms with backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who spent the past two seasons working behind Russell Wilson.

Jackson, who was Seattle’s starter in 2011 before spending a year with the Buffalo Bills, apparently was looking for a spot where he might have a better chance to start. Instead, he will return to Seattle to battle R.J. Archer for the backup job behind Wilson.

Jackson will give Seattle three quarterbacks on its roster, with B.J. Daniels playing almost exclusively at receiver.

–Third-year defensive tackle Jesse Williams, who underwent kidney surgery May 28 after being diagnosed with papillary type-2 cancer, announced this week that he was cleared to resume working out.

Williams has remained on the Seahawks’ 90-man roster, anticipating that he will be able to return in time for training camp. He missed his first two seasons after undergoing knee surgeries.

–It was reported this week that the Seahawks started serious discussions with middle linebacker Bobby Wagner on a contract extension.

Wagner is entering the final year of his initial four-year rookie contract and is eligible for an extension, as is the case with Wilson.

The Seahawks have been in high-profile negotiations with Wilson that so far have gone nowhere. There was some speculation that the fact that the team had turned more seriously to Wagner indicated they are resigned that Wilson could play the 2015 season without a new contract, so it wants to at least make sure it gets Wagner wrapped up.

–Center might be the most wide-open position group as the Seahawks search for a replacement for Max Unger, who was traded to the New Orleans Saints as part of the Jimmy Graham deal.

Lemuel Jeanpierre handled most of the snaps with the No. 1 offense in the organized team activities open to the media, with Patrick Lewis often working with the backups. Each was a backup to Unger last year. Both started at least three games, with Unger missing 10 games because of injuries in 2014.

–Seattle will be able to hold only one minicamp practice next week — on June 18 — as punishment from the NFL for practicing a bit more physically than is allowed in minicamp last season.
