Seahawks put LB Pierre-Louis on IR, claim CB

Published

on

The Seattle Seahawks placed rookie linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis on injured reserve Friday and claimed rookie cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts.

Pierre-Louis, a fourth-round pick, suffered a shoulder injury in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs and had missed the Seahawks’ past two games.

Pierre-Louis filled in well amid injuries to Bobby Wagner and Malcolm Smith at midseason. He finished his first season with 13 tackles.

Purifoy is the second Colts cornerback the Seahawks have acquired this season; they traded for Marcus Burley in late August.

The Colts had been comfortable trading Burley largely because they liked the undrafted Purifoy so much, so it surprised some when they waived him Thursday.

Purifoy, who was not drafted largely because of a history of off-field issues while at Florida, reportedly was waived by the Colts for more off-field problems.

The Seahawks likely are taking a flyer on Purifoy because he can replace Pierre-Louis on special teams. Purifoy was one of the Colts’ best kick coverage players.
