Seahawks eager to sign RB Fred Jackson

Fred Jackson told Bills fans in his goodbye to Buffalo on Monday he wasn’t done yet, and the Seattle Seahawks apparently agree wholeheartedly with the 34-year-old running back.

Within hours of being released by the the Bills after a nine-year run that left him third on the franchise’s rushing list behind O.J. Simpson and Thurman Thomas, Jackson was on a flight to Seattle to visit the NFC champions and discuss becoming a backup to Marshawn Lynch.

That’s old hat to Jackson, one of Lynch’s teammates in 2007, when Lynch was a first-round draft pick out of Cal and Jackson was scrapping to make the roster as an undrafted free agent — and Arena Football, NFL Europe product — from Coe College.

Jackson is a versatile player but doesn’t deny he is near the end of his career.

As the occasional supersub behind Lynch, with excellent hands and awareness as a pass blocker, Jackson could prolong his career and do something he has never done in the NFL — reach the playoffs.
