Saints Take Stand, Release Galette
The New Orleans Saints have released talented pass rusher Junior Gallette.
According to multiple media reports, the New Orleans Saints have released outside linebacker/defensive end Junior Galette.
The Saints were apparently fed up with Gallette’s act as he is being investigated for his role in a domestic violence case. Galette allegedly struck a woman with a belt in an apparent brawl in this video.
“We were made aware of the video and we sent it to the league office,” Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said. “There is a process this will go through at the league-office level and we are waiting on that to be determined.”
Gallette was supposed to meet with NFL officials over a January arrest for a separate domestic violence incident.
This is yet another example of the current climate in the NFL where domestic violence simply will no longer be ignored. Gallette is an excellent pass rusher who can play in either a 3-4 or a 4-3, and New Orleans is parting ways with him after paying him roughly $18 million of his four-year, $41.5 million contract extension last year.
Over the past two seasons, Gallette has tallied 22 sacks, leading the Saints. In fact, his 10 sacks in 2014 marked nearly one-third of the team’s total (34 sacks).
Gallette will likely be facing some sort of league discipline, but he will likely still be a sought after piece by many NFL teams, despite his tendency to strike women.
