Rodgers named MVP by PFWA
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player by the Pro Football Writers of America on Wednesday.
Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray was named Offensive Player of the Year and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Rodgers led a 26-21 comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys in a divisional playoff game last Sunday despite playing through a left calf injury. His big second-half performance, in which he threw for 226 of his 316 yards and two of his three touchdowns, rallied the Packers from a 21-13 deficit.
Rodgers threw for 4,381 yards and 38 touchdowns against just five interceptions during the regular season.
Murray led the league in rushing with 1,845 yards along with 13 touchdowns during the regular season.
Watt became the first player in league history with two 20-sack seasons. He finished the season with 20.5 sacks, 29 tackles for loss and 50 quarterback hits. In addition, Watt became an offensive weapon in the red zone, catching three passes for touchdowns.
