Rodgers just dealing with injury

Published

One of the questions on everyone’s mind heading into Sunday’s NFC Championship game in Seattle is the health of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that Rodgers is adjusting to playing with the calf injury that has bothered him since December.

“Aaron is getting ready to play. Looks good,” McCarthy said after Friday’s practice in Green Bay. “We have meetings still going on and some work to do still, but everything’s on schedule.”

That’s good news for Packers fans.

“Yeah, doing good. Friday is a nice, relaxing day for us,” Rodgers said before the Packers left for Seattle in the afternoon.

“There weren’t a lot of explosive movements last week, so we’ll see how it goes Sunday. I mean, it’s been something that I’ve dealt with for the past couple weeks. It’s painful. There’s stiffness involved. There’s constant around-the-clock treatment, so it’ll be good Sunday.”

There’s also concern about running back Eddie Lacy and a knee injury that made McCarthy pull him out of practice on Thursday.

Rodgers and Lacy are both listed as probable.

“I mean, (Lacy) looks good to me walking in and out of meetings,” McCarthy said. “He’ll be ready to play.”

McCarthy is enthusiastic about the Packers’ chances of upsetting the Seahawks and advancing to the Super Bowl.

“A lot of energy,” McCarthy said of the team’s workouts this week. “I think that’s something that builds as your confidence builds as a football team. … I think everybody identifies how important this game is.

“This is something you start talking about back in April when you start. I’m a fan of real drama. I really like the real drama that football gives you. The made-up stuff, I’m not a fan of. That would be made-up drama.”

McCarthy is hoping for a reversal of the outcome from the first meeting between the teams that resulted in a 36-16 Seattle victory.

“We’ve played a lot of football since then, so we’re a different team,” McCarthy said.
