Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers talked about his injury and Ndamukong Suh on Tuesday, saying he initially thought he had a serious problem with his leg and adding that he’s eager to see how the NFL handles the appeal of a one-game suspension by the Detroit Lions defensive lineman.

Rodgers came into Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Lions with a left calf muscle pull from the previous week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“My initial thought was I popped my Achilles,” Rodgers said Tuesday during his radio show in Milwaukee. “That’s why I kind of stayed down. It was a very painful sensation.”

It turned out that Rodgers reinjured the calf muscle, but he’s hoping to be fully healed before a Jan. 11 NFC divisional playoff game. The Packers received a first-round bye after beating the Lions and securing the NFC North title.

“I don’t think it’s a good thing,” Rodgers said of the injury. “The fact that the inside (of the calf) was real weak because that was the initial point of strain in the Tampa game, the outside just kind of gave out on the scramble and the throw. Fortunate that we have two weeks here because I feel confident that I’ll be in a better spot than I was going into the Lions game with an extra week of rest.”

Rodgers is taking it easy and receiving treatment. The Packers are off until Friday.

Meanwhile, Rodgers addressed the Suh incident. Suh stepped on Rodgers’ ankle late in Sunday’s game and was suspended Monday by the NFL for the Lions’ wild-card game against the Dallas Cowboys.

“It will be interesting to see what happens with the appeal,” Rodgers said. “The only thing I can say is if you step on something in your everyday life or if you step on somebody on the field, the first reaction seems to be looking back and maybe apologizing with your hands or maybe pulling your foot back right away, and I’m just not sure that’s what happened on Sunday.”
