ASHBURN, Va. — Just when it seemed that the Washington Redskins were finally done changing quarterbacks, a sixth switch could happen in Sunday’s season finale against the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington coach Jay Gruden revealed Wednesday that Robert Griffin III sprained his throwing shoulder in last Saturday’s 27-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year’s first start-to-finish triumph in more than 13 months.

“(The shoulder) needs to get better,” said Gruden, noting that Griffin was injured when sacked by Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox during the third quarter. “I don’t think it’s a serious deal, but if it affects his throwing, then it could be an issue. He threw a little bit today. He was a little sore. I think he’ll be OK.”

Gruden said that the Redskins were being cautious with Griffin, whom he hopes will be able to work fully when the team returns to practice Friday. Kirk Cousins would start against the NFC East champion Cowboys if Griffin is not ready.

Griffin began the year as the starter for the third straight season but missed six games after dislocating his left ankle in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cousins replaced him that day and held the job until being benched for Colt McCoy at halftime of the Week 7 game with Tennessee.

Griffin returned in Week 10 but was benched for McCoy after three games. McCoy sustained a season-ending sprained neck in Week 15 at the New York Giants, opening the door for Griffin’s third stint.

The man who protects the quarterbacks’ blind side, left tackle Trent Williams, was voted to this third consecutive Pro Bowl despite having his worst season since 2011.

Not only was Williams’ selection a surprise, but so was the voters bypassing outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, who is tied for the NFL lead with five forced fumbles and ranks second in the NFC with 13.5 sacks, eight more than any teammate.

Like fellow 2012 Pro Bowl pick Kerrigan, running back Alfred Morris, a 2013 Pro Bowl selection who has 1,000 rushing yards for the third consecutive season, is an alternate this year. Tress Way, who leads the league in punting in his first season, wasn’t even accorded that status. Such is life on a 4-11 team that will finish last in the division for the sixth time in seven seasons.

NOTES: Offensive tackle Trent Williams didn’t practice Wednesday after aggravating a right shoulder injury during the fourth quarter Saturday against Philadelphia. A shoulder ailment sidelined him during the previous week’s loss to the New York Giants. … Defensive end Jason Hatcher (knee) did not practice Wednesday. … Among those limited in practice besides quarterback Robert Griffin III were inside linebacker Chris Baker (toe, elbow), inside linebacker Keenan Robinson (knee) and outside linebacker Gabe Miller (ankle).
