Reports: Seahawks offer Lynch $21 million for 2015-16
The Seattle Seahawks might be moving closer to a resolution with running back Marshawn Lynch.
The Seahawks have offered him $12 million in 2015 and $9 million in 2016, according to reports Saturday by Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Lynch is scheduled to make $7 million in 2015 under terms of the four-year deal he signed in 2012.
After La Canfora’s report Saturday night, Doug Hendrickson, Lynch’s agent, tweeted, “Contrary to reports, there is no Marshawn Lynch deal.”
According to Getlin, Hendrickson met with Seahawks general manager John Schneider in Indianapolis, site of the NFL Scouting Combine, on Friday night. According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, the sides continue to have positive discussions.
At the Combine on Friday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, “I have not talked to Marshawn but we have been in earnest a great deal of time now negotiating to get Marshawn back with us in every way that we can. It’s been an ongoing, long process, and we have had big offers out, and we continue to work with that, and we are excited about the future.
“He has been an integral part of our program for five years and (we have) loved the contribution he has brought. He has been a great character in our program, so we are excited to move ahead. We would really like to move at that swiftly. It’s such a big deal, as it has always been, to get our lead players intact, so we are working at that now.”
Schneider said Wednesday, “I’ve talked to his people a bunch. He knows we want him to play.”
But does Lynch, who turns 29 in April, want to play?
“He’s a guy who kind of beats to his own drum,” Schneider said. “He does what he wants. He never lets you know one way or the other.
“There’s been a lot of good running backs who have just walked away. So I have no idea.”
But, Schneider said, “We’d like to know soon.”
