Reports: Rob Ryan to return as Saints DC

Published

on

Rob Ryan will remain the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator for the 2015 season, according to multiple reports.

A source confirmed to ESPN of the news reported earlier Wednesday by the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Ryan’s status was in limbo after Saints coach Sean Payton promised to make significant changes following a disappointing 7-9 season. The Saints reportedly already parted ways with longtime tight ends coach Terry Malone, wide receivers coach Henry Ellard and assistant secondary coach Andre Curtis.

The Saints ranked 31st in the NFL in yards allowed this season. In Ryan’s first year in New Orleans in 2013, the Saints ranked fourth in yards allowed.

Ryan has been defensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Saints.

“If I’m back, I’m gonna start (the improvement) with me,” Ryan said when he last spoke with the media two weeks ago. “Whatever I can do better, whatever we can do better … if I have that opportunity.”
