Reports: Raiders, Harbaugh have mutual interest

If you can’t beat them, join them?

Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers continued to unravel Sunday, becoming the Oakland Raiders’ second conquest of the season amid reports that Harbaugh is the favorite to coach the Raiders next season.

Harbaugh, who is not expected to finish the final year of his contract with the 49ers next year, has indirectly talked to the Raiders about coaching them next season, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report. And Raiders owner Mark Davis is willing to trade for and pay Harbaugh, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported.

Harbaugh was seen talking to Davis on the field before the game Sunday. Asked what they talked about, Davis told the San Jose Mercury News, “I told him, ‘You stole our dysfunction! That’s supposed to be our thing.'”

Harbaugh also has been contacted by the University of Michigan, his alma mater, but Michigan believes he wants to stay in the NFL, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Despite the 49ers’ struggles this season — they are 7-6 and three games behind in the NFC West — Harbaugh is expected to be in high demand in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets also are considered possible options.

The 49ers are expected to try to deal Harbaugh for some kind of draft pick compensation.
