Reports: Browns fine Manziel for tardiness
The Cleveland Browns reportedly fined rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel for being late for treatment on the hamstring injury that ended his season last week.
The fine was reported by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and National Football Post.
Manziel is out for the finale in Baltimore due to the injury, which would have cost him several weeks if the Browns were still playing beyond Sunday.
Manziel’s reported tardiness comes the same week he said he would take his job more seriously.
“I have to take this a lot more seriously. It’s a job for me now,” Manziel said Tuesday. “I’m not the Johnny Manziel that came in here a year ago. It’s been a year of growing up for me.”
The news of the fine also coincides with the team’s decision to suspend wide receiver Josh Gordon for the season finale Sunday because he missed the walk-through on Saturday.
Also, the Browns said wide receiver Phil Bates, who is not injured, did not travel to Baltimore and will not play Sunday. He had been promoted off the practice squad to replace Gordon.
