Is quarterback Russell Wilson close to a new deal with the Seattle Seahawks or isn’t he?

An ESPN report last week indicated “they’re very close,” but Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said Monday that “talks between Wilson and the Seahawks have gone nowhere.”

According to La Canfora, “no real progress” has been made and sources say Wilson is preparing as if he might have to play out his rookie contract, which will pay him $1.54 million in 2015.

Last Friday, Terry Blount of ESPN.com told 710 ESPN that the sides were nearing a deal.

“From what I’ve been told, they’re very close,” he said. “They’re just trying to make sure every single thing is in place before they go forward with this. I think it’s going to be bigger and crazier and different from what any contract has ever been.”

At the Combine in February, general manager John Schneider said the Seahawks would think “outside the box” with Wilson’s deal and won’t necessarily “do exactly what everybody else has done around the league.”

That has led some to speculate that the Seahawks are considering giving Wilson the first fully guaranteed deal in NFL history — perhaps $75 million to $80 million.

Others, such as La Canfora, have suggested that Wilson might play out his rookie deal and potentially end up getting the franchise tag in 2016. The franchise tag for quarterbacks this year is worth $18.5 million, and it figures to rise to perhaps $20 million in 2016.

On ESPN’s “NFL Live” on Monday, Schneider reiterated that the Seahawks want to get a deal done this offseason.
