Report: Super Bowl hosts will have to play in London

Published

on

NFL owners reportedly voted last week to require teams from Super Bowl host cities to play a home game in London.

Teams will be required to give up one home game in a five-year period following the winning Super Bowl bid and play in London, according to Sports Business Journal.

It is not known when the rule will take effect. Super Bowl hosts already have been chosen through the 2017 season. Glendale, Ariz., will host this season’s Super Bowl. San Francisco’s new stadium will be the site of Super Bowl L, Houston will host Super Bowl LI, and Minneapolis will host Super Bowl LII in February 2018.

It is the NFL’s latest attempt to add games in London. The league has three games scheduled at Wembley Stadium this season. The Oakland Raiders gave up a home game to play the Miami Dolphins there in Week 4. The Atlanta Falcons host the Detroit Lions in Week 8 and the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.
