Report: Seahawks, Wagner could have deal by camp

The Seattle Seahawks and All-Pro middle linebacker Bobby Wagner reportedly are making progress in contract negotiations and could have a deal before training camp begins next week.

Discussions about a deal have been “very active,” leading to the optimism about a long-term deal getting done soon, Rand Getlin of NFL Media reported Wednesday.

Wagner, a 2012 second-round pick who was voted to his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams last season, is expected to receive as much as $10 million per year.

Wagner made 104 tackles last season despite missing five games with a sprained toe, and he has 364 tackles in his first three seasons.

The Seahawks began discussions with Wagner’s agent last month after talks with quarterback Russell Wilson stagnated.

Both 2012 draft picks are entering the final year of their rookie contracts, and the Seahawks would like to lock up one of them before next offseason.

Talks with Wilson have not progressed far, and he and his agent have said they are willing to play out the final year of his deal, which will pay him $1.54 million.

Wagner is due $977,427 in the final year of his rookie deal.
