Report: Raiders owner plans overhaul

Published

on

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis plans to make major changes to the team, according to ESPN.

Those plans include spending lots of money and overhauling the organization in an attempt to build a winning team. The changes could include firing general manager Reggie McKenzie.

The Raiders are expected to hire a new coach. Tony Sparano replaced fired coach Dennis Allen in the interim after the Raiders got off to a 0-4 start.

Davis has reportedly met with former Raiders and people not associated with the team’s front office for advice during road trips.

The Raiders are 2-7 under Sparano entering Sunday, but he is not expected to be retained.

After the Raiders’ win over the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 7, Sparano was asked if he wants to come back as head coach.

“I was given a job to do several weeks ago, trying to do the job the way that I know how to do the job, and I know, I said this after the game yesterday, too, I know where our players are,” Sparano said. “I know what they think and I know how they respond. I can tell by their response, so I feel really good about where we are right now. I love this group of guys and I like coaching them and I love this team, so, that’s all I’ll say to you.”
