Quarterback Jameis Winston, still expected to be the No. 1 selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the upcoming NFL draft, will make a visit to the New York Jets, according to the New York Daily News.

Winston isn’t expected to be available when the Jets are on the clock with the No. 6 pick.

The Daily News reported that the Jets canceled a private workout on April 4 with the former Florida State quarterback after seeing him at his Pro Day on March 31. General manager Mike Maccagnan, head coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey were in attendance for Winston’s workout at Florida State’s campus in Tallahassee, Fla.

According to the Daily News, Winston will have some classroom and film work to test his football acumen during his visit to Florham Park.

After his Pro Day, Winston didn’t hesitate when he was asked why Tampa Bay should select him.

“Because I’m the best player in this draft,” he said.

Winston completed 91 of 102 passes, with at least half of the incompletions being drops. Bucs general manager Jason Licht and head coach Lovie Smith were impressed.

“It was very good, excellent. He had a great day,” Licht said after Winston’s workout. “He threw a full nine innings. It looked good.”

NFLDraftScout.com ranks Winston as the No. 1 overall prospect and Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota as No. 2.
