Report: P&G pulls out of NFL initiative
The NFL’s recent spate of bad publicity prompted a sponsor to withdraw from a breast-cancer-awareness initiative, CBS Sports reported Thursday.
Procter & Gamble, under the guise of its Crest toothpaste brand, planned to team with the NFL in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. However, the corporation pulled its sponsorship in light of the NFL’s off-field issues, sources told CBS Sports.
Players on all 32 teams were due to wear pink mouthguards and participate in social-media events, but the entire campaign was scrapped, according to the report. However, the company still intends to make its scheduled donation to cancer charities.
P&G became the second company to back away from the NFL or one of its teams in the wake of controversies surrounding the domestic-violence case against Ray Rice, the child-abuse charges against Adrian Peterson and other recent arrests. Radisson suspended its limited sponsorship of the Minnesota Vikings after the team initially reinstated Peterson to the active roster before placing him on the exempt list.
