Report: Patriots RB Gray will not start

Published

on

New England Patriots running back Jonas Gray is active but will not start Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, according to ESPN.

Gray was sent home Friday after he failed to report to the team’s facility on time. He reportedly missed practice because he overslept.

Gray, who rushed for 201 yards with four touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts last week, apologized to coach Bill Belichick and his teammates for being late. He claimed that he set his alarm on his cell phone and the phone’s battery went dead overnight.

Gray is No. 1 on the team’s depth chart at power running back, ahead of LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden. The smaller running backs are led by Shane Vereen and James White.
