Report: Packers’ Cobb expected to play in opener
The Sports Xchange
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb should be able to play in the season opener against the Chicago Bears after suffering a shoulder injury during the team’s third preseason game.
Cobb came down on his right shoulder after attempting to catch a pass early in Saturday night’s exhibition game against the Philadelphia Eagles and suffered a sprain, according to multiple reports.
The injury should not prevent him, though, from being on the field when the Packers kick off the season on Sept. 13 against division rival Chicago.
The Packers are counting on Cobb to be their primary receiver this year after receiver Jordy Nelson suffered a season-ending knee injury last month.
Last season, Cobb had a career-high 91 catches for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He signed a four-year, $40 million contract with the Packers in the offseason.
Green Bay wraps up his preseason schedule on Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints.
