Report: Olson favored to replace Allen if fired
Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis continues to consider making a coaching change and offensive coordinator Greg Olson is a strong candidate to replace Dennis Allen if he is fired, CBS Sports reported Sunday.
Recently, assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tony Sparano was considered the favorite to take the helm on an interim basis if Davis decides to part with Allen.
However, Olson has been credited with helping develop rookie Derek Carr, the starting quarterback. Having a coach already in place to continue that development reportedly makes Olson an attractive candidate.
Davis could look to fire Allen during the Raiders’ upcoming bye week. Oakland (0-3) “hosts” the Miami Dolphins in London on Sunday. Dropping to 0-4 heading into the bye has been speculated as a scenario in which Davis may make a coaching change.
Firing general manager Reggie McKenzie during the season is less likely to happen. Axing the coach, on the other hand, is far less cumbersome.
Allen, in his third year, is 8-27 as the Raiders’ coach.
