Report: Michigan makes sizable offer to Harbaugh
Michigan offered San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh a six-year, $48 million deal to return to his alma mater, according to reports Wednesday.
The deal would make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in college football. According to USA Today salary data, Alabama’s Nick Saban makes approximately $7.16 million per year.
Michigan is looking to replace Brady Hoke, who was fired Dec. 2 after four seasons.
Harbaugh has been mentioned repeatedly as a potential candidate at Michigan, where he played quarterback in the 1980s. According to ESPN.com, Michigan’s significant offer would make Harbaugh considering returning to Ann Arbor.
Before Harbaugh took the 49ers’ job, he was a college head coach at Stanford, where he led the Cardinal to a 12-1 record and an Orange Bowl victory during the 2010 season. He also coached for three seasons at San Diego.
